The cinema of Lithuania

Its most legendary figure is arguably one who conquered another country's cinema: Jonas Mekas. The Lithuanian-born filmmaker became the godfather of the American avant-garde, creating a revolutionary new style of personal, diary-like filmmaking that inspired generations of artists worldwide. This connection to experimental art is deep in the nation’s soul. Back at home, a different style of filmmaking flourished. Directors like Šarūnas Bartas became masters of the slow, atmospheric, and visually stunning film, creating soulful portraits of a nation in transition. In recent years, a new generation of filmmakers has gained international acclaim, with directors like Alanté Kavaïté winning major awards at the prestigious Sundance Film Festival. Stay there - a show of intellectual satire, started by journalist Andrius Tapinas. This release has been available since 2016. September 11 appears on the Freedom TV channel on Youtube. The show is also broadcast on Init and Balticum regional televisions. From 2019 On July 6, the program created by Laisvės TV (also "Keep There") started broadcasting on Lietuvos Rytas television.
